At the risk of sounding a little over-the-top, I could talk all day about having a great, or not-so-great dishwasher. Not only did I work in the corporate office of a major appliance manufacturer for over 10 years, but I’m a mom of three children with dishes constantly piling up in the sink, which means I understand how valuable a dishwasher can be. Since Black Friday is a fantastic time to buy this appliance, I wanted to share my favorite tips and tricks for finding the best deals—and how to choose the right dishwasher for your budget.

Deals by dishwasher type

What you need to know for Black Friday

When is Black Friday?

Technically speaking, Black Friday is the Friday directly following Thanksgiving (in the United States), which always happens on the fourth Thursday of November. This year Black Friday is on November 24th.

While you may think you need to rush to the store at 12:01AM on November 24th to receive the best Black Friday dishwasher deals, well, I have great news for you. The dishwasher deals usually last the entire month of November. You will likely find the same pricing (unless there is a special in-store promotion from the retailer) from a national manufacturer on Black Friday, as you would during the rest of the month, so go ahead and sleep in!

What deals should I expect on dishwashers?

Based on my experience, Black Friday is the best time of year to purchase a dishwasher or any new appliance. While there are steep discounts available throughout the year around other holidays, such as Memorial Day, the manufacturers seem to pull out all the stops for pricing during the month of November. Not only do they want to compete for pricing because all the manufacturers are doing it, but companies want to end their year strong financially and move as much inventory as possible.

What kind of dishwasher deals did they have last year?

There are always great deals to be found on dishwashers for Black Friday. Last year we saw steep discounts with products such as:

  • 24-inch Samsung smart linear wash built-in dishwasher (39 dBA), $799 (regularly $1,080)
  • 24-inch KitchenAid top control built-in dishwasher (44 dBA), $949 (regularly $1,215)
  • Whirlpool large capacity built-in dishwasher (47 dBA), $669 (regularly $837)

These are only a handful of deals found last year. It’s a great time to save $200, $300, or even more on the most popular dishwasher brands.

How to get a good deal on a dishwasher on Black Friday

The manufacturers put out their Black Friday pricing during the month of November, so you can usually start shopping earlier in the month and start comparing prices. You shouldn’t see too many price fluctuations during this time, unless a particular retailer decides to kick in their own additional coupon for in-store use.

Almost all major dishwasher brands will have deals in November. It’s too competitive of a time for them to not participate in lower pricing. As you start shopping around and comparing prices, you may want to pay attention to the pricing of the most popular national brands:

  • Frigidaire
  • Maytag
  • Whirlpool
  • KitchenAid
  • GE
  • Samsung
  • LG
  • Bosch

If there’s a particular brand you’re interested in, then start with the manufacturer’s website. Not only can you research your favorite dishwasher features, but it will point you to a place to purchase. You can order almost any dishwasher online (which I recently did), but you can go see many of the models in-person at the national big box stores.

How to choose the best dishwasher for you

I consider myself a dishwasher snob, thanks to my years of working with an appliance manufacturer. If I had to choose a few features to focus on (which I went through recently when I purchased my own brand new dishwasher) I would advise you to focus particularly on these these pointers:

Plastic tub vs. stainless tub

The plastic tubs dry your dishes better than stainless tubs, but they don’t insulate the sound, as well. Plus, they look dingy over time. Stainless steel tubs will leave water on your dishes, but will clean them just as well (if not better) than a plastic tub.

Sound

A stainless steel tub is almost always quieter. Look for the dBA rating which rates how loud it is and the lower the better. Anything 44 dBA or lower will be ultra-quiet, with 50 dBA being an average sound level.

Budget

Plastic tubs cost less while stainless steel tubs are more expensive. However, a stainless steel tub has amazing durability and may last longer than a plastic tub.

Today’s dishwasher technology is so much more advanced and produces more energy efficient dishwashers than ever before, which means you can find a great fit across all price points.

Where to find Black Friday deals on dishwashers

When it comes to the best Black Friday deals for dishwashers, you have several options. Of course, the big box stores like Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Best Buy not only have their deals online, but you’re likely to find the best selection with the bigger sites.

However, this doesn’t mean you can’t find deals in other places, as well. There are smaller, regional retailers like Abt Electronics based out of Chicago, Illinois, or AJ Madison out of Brooklyn, New York, that can deliver throughout the U.S. If you have a favorite local or regional appliance store you prefer, then it’s definitely worth taking a look. The prices should be the same as the big box store or lower if they’re running their own in-store promotion.

Surprisingly, Amazon may not be your first choice for Black Friday dishwasher deals (or any appliance deals for that matter).
