When is Black Friday?
The Thanksgiving holiday (in the U.S.) is always the fourth Thursday of November and Black Friday is always the Friday immediately following the holiday. This year Black Friday falls on November 24th.
What deals should I expect on appliances?
I admit I probably enjoy discussing appliances more than the average person, thanks to my years of experience working at the corporate headquarters of one of the largest national appliance manufacturers in the U.S. Based on this experience, I can confidently share with you that November is one of the best times to purchase appliances, if not the absolute best. Notice I said “November,” and not simply Black Friday. This is because the appliance manufacturers work with retailers to offer the optimal deals almost the entire month. You should find great pricing on appliances throughout the month, whether you buy the first week of November or on the actual Black Friday.
You can also expect hundreds of dollars off the most popular models of everything from refrigerators and dishwashers, to cooktops, wall ovens and ranges. You can also save even more when you “bundle” your purchases, meaning, buy two or more appliances at once. While this can often put a strain on the budget, you can save even more with additional discounts and upgrading to more energy-efficient appliances, which can help you save in the long run.
What kind of appliance deals did they have last year?
Last year we saw a wide range of Black Friday deals across every major appliance category and with almost every big retailer. Some of the appliance deals we saw included:

How to get a good deal on appliances on Black Friday
Rest assured almost all appliance manufacturers put forward their best pricing during the entire month of November, but for the best selection of in-stock models then you may prefer shopping earlier in the month versus later. Another key point to note is how deals should be the same either online or in-store too, so you can pick whichever is most convenient for you.
To find the best deals, start your research with the manufacturer’s website. You can decide what features appeal to you the most with new appliances and then the sites can direct you to where you buy. You can also check out all the major national and regional appliance dealer’s websites and find out what exact deals they’re running, since the prices are typically the same in-store as online.
How to choose the best appliances for you
Today’s appliances come with a long list of features that can save you time or effort, but they also come in a wide range of budgets. It can get pretty overwhelming deciding which appliances you should purchase, so I recommend starting with the basics, including:
- Finish: For your large appliances, including refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges, wall ovens, cooktops and microwave ovens, you can choose your finish. Stainless steel is a popular choice thanks to its durability and sleek look. But unless you purchase a fingerprint-resistant stainless, then get prepared for constant cleaning and wiping down smudges. You can always choose black or white appliances too, which are typically more budget-friendly, but having stainless steel appliances is considered a nicer upgrade and has a better resale factor.
- In-stock/delivery time: Appliances can quickly go in and out of stock. If it’s in-stock, then most retailers can schedule a delivery for a few days out. However, out-of-stock items may take as little as a few weeks to several months to arrive.
- Measurements: No matter what type of appliance you’re shopping for, do yourself a favor and measure very carefully prior to ordering. The last thing you want is to order a 30-inch wall oven for example, only to have it delivered and realize you have a 27-inch space.
- Budget: Appliances come in a range of budgets and can cost thousands of dollars when it’s all said and done. Decide what your budget is before you go shopping and you will likely find something suitable for your budget. Don’t forget to consider any in-store rebates or financing offers that can lower the overall cost.
- Bundle and save offers: As mentioned, buying more than one appliance at a time can often save money. Not only do manufacturers offer bundling rebates, but look for rebates from the retailer too if you buy more, which you can often combine with the sale price.
Where to find Black Friday deals on appliances
The big box stores, including Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Best Buy make it so easy to come and look at appliances in-person and also for online ordering, too. Or you might choose a local or regional retailer and they should have similar pricing (or better, in some cases) versus the big box stores. Don’t forget online-only retailers such as Wayfair, they can also have fantastic deals on appliances—although it helps to know what you’re looking for ahead of time since you won’t have the luxury of checking out the appliances in person.
