More than 30% of visitors to the 2019 poll selected the [Hong Kong protestors,](https://time.com/5736896/hong-kong-district-council-elections/) who have staged mass demonstrations in the semiautonomous city since June. The protests initially began in response to a controversial extradition bill, but have since grown into a outright rebellion demanding [greater autonomy from China](https://time.com/5618015/democracy-in-hong-kong/). The protestors prompted the Hong Kong government to [formally withdraw the bill](https://time.com/5668232/hong-kong-extradition-bill-carrie-lam-withdraw/), and have been credited with inspiring a [record turnout at local elections](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/nov/24/hong-kong-protests-prompt-huge-turnout-for-local-elections) held in November.
