TIME’s Take

Whether you’re a full-blown Mouseketeer or just planning to take your family to a Disney park one day, the card_name from Chase might be right for you. In addition to fun card art, this rewards credit card offers cash back on all purchases, including the following bonus categories: Streaming services (including Disney+), gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and Disney locations in the U.S. The card has a low annual fee, a $300 welcome bonus, and 0% APR financing on select Disney vacation packages.

Rewards redemptions are more limited than from other Chase cash back credit cards, making this a product geared explicitly toward Disney fans. With a short introductory APR period that only applies to vacation packages, the card isn’t the best choice for people looking to consolidate debt or pay off a large purchase over time.

Pros & cons

Pros:

  • $300 welcome bonus
  • 0% promotional APR financing on select Disney vacation packages
  • Up to 5% cash back rewards on spending

Cons:

  • $49 annual fee
  • Limited rewards redemption options
  • Highest cash back categories are on streaming services

Who is the card for?

The card_name from Chase is ideal for cardholders looking to maximize their benefits for future Disney trips. In addition to earning bonus rewards on Disney spending, it’s easy to redeem those rewards (in the form of Disney Dollars) toward Disney-related purchases. Plus, if you’re planning a Disney vacation in the future, the card offers special financing for your vacation package.

If you visit Disney regularly, shop online through the Disney store, or are planning a Disney trip in the future, this card can help you save money on upcoming expenses. You can redeem your rewards for airfare, theme-park tickets, Disney merchandise, resort stays, and more. Plus, a promotional 0% APR offer on vacation packages means that you can plan your next family vacation without worrying about finance charges.

The card_name does come with a $49 annual fee, so you’ll want to ensure that you’ll get your money’s worth before you sign up. There’s also a $300 welcome bonus offer (providing you spend $1,000 in the first three months of card ownership), which can easily offset that annual fee.

Features

Rewards

The card_name provides cardholders with up to 5% back in Disney Reward Dollars on streaming purchases (DisneyPlus.com, Hulu.com, or ESPNPlus.com). You’ll also earn 2% back on gas station, grocery store, restaurant, and U.S. Disney location purchases. Everything else earns 1% back.

You can redeem your rewards in two ways:

  • As a statement credit toward airline travel.
  • Via a Disney Rewards Redemption Card.

A Disney Rewards Redemption Card comes loaded with redeemed Disney Rewards Dollars. You can use the card to purchase most Disney items at Disney locations. You can also use the card to stock up on items at shopDisney.com or for AMC movie tickets when seeing a Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, or Marvel movie. You can get a Disney Rewards Redemption Card as soon as you’ve earned 20 Rewards Dollars, and you can reload the card anytime with at least 10 Rewards Dollars.

Once you’ve loaded your Redemption Card, your Rewards Dollars won’t expire. However, if you don’t load your rewards onto a card, they will expire five years after you earn them.

You can choose to redeem rewards toward airfare instead, with a minimum of 50 Disney Rewards Dollars (equivalent to $50 in an airline statement credit). Simply purchase an airline ticket with your card_name, then request a statement credit for that purchase within 60 days.

Welcome bonus

New cardholders can earn a welcome bonus in the form of a $300 statement credit after spending $1,000 in purchases on the card within the first three months of card ownership. This offer is only available to cardholders who haven’t earned this bonus in the last 24 months.

0% APR vacation financing

Select Disney vacation packages may be eligible for promotional 0% APR financing for up to six months. Rather than paying for your vacation in full, you can pay it off slowly over half a year without incurring any finance charges on the balance.

The financing offer is available for vacation packages booked through Walt Disney Travel Company, Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney Travel Services, Inc., through Disney websites, or select other travel agents and websites. The vacation package must be prepaid and charged to your card before you travel.

Eligible Disney vacation packages include:

  • Disney Resort packages.
  • Adventures by Disney packages.
  • National Geographic Expeditions.
  • Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina, Hawai'i vacation packages.
  • Disney Cruise Line packages.

After the six-month promotional APR period ends, any remaining balance is subject to a variable APR ranging from 19.24% to 28.24%.

Disney bundle credit

Use your card_name on DisneyPlus.com, Hulu.com, or ESPNPlus.com, and get up to $14.99 per month back for up to three consecutive months. Credit is available for subscriptions or bundle add-ons.

Discounts

Use your card on shopDisney.com, Disney retail and outlet stores throughout the U.S., or at select locations in the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, to save 10% off your total. The discount applies to select merchandise purchases as long as you mention the offer and present your card before paying.

The fine print

As with any credit card, it’s important to understand the fine print before you apply or use the card. This will help you limit your fees and take advantage of all available perks.

Annual fee

The card_name from Chase charges a $49 annual fee, which is not waived the first year. Like any rewards card with an annual fee, make sure you will earn at least enough rewards to cover it.

Interest charges

The card_name has a variable APR of between 19.24% and 28.24%, depending on creditworthiness and other factors. The APR is charged on all purchases if the statement balance isn’t paid in full each month. The only exception would be purchases eligible for the promotional 0% APR vacation package offer, but after that six-month period ends, any remaining balance becomes subject to the APR.

Promotional APR

The card’s promotional APR period can only be applied to eligible Disney vacation packages, and is only available for six months. Unfortunately, there is no introductory APR offer on new purchases or balance transfers.

Rewards redemption

You can only redeem your earned rewards as a statement credit for airline travel or as Disney Rewards Dollars on a requested Rewards Card. Disney Rewards Dollars can be spent on many eligible purchases—including park merchandise, shopDisney.com purchases, in Disney retail stores, and applied to theme-park tickets—but they hold no value outside the Disney umbrella.

Your earned rewards will expire within five years if you fail to redeem them. However, as long as you transfer them to a Redemption Card, those Disney Rewards Dollars will not expire. Just remember that card redemptions are only available once you reach $20—or $50 for airline travel.

Additional hidden perks

Beyond the Disney-specific perks of this card, there are a few other benefits to note.

DoorDash

Cardholders can enjoy a complimentary one-year DashPass. This membership offers unlimited $0 deliveries through DoorDash and Caviar, and reduced service fees for eligible orders.

My Chase Plan

Many Chase credit cards today offer My Chase Plan, a financing option for cardholders who want to spread their card repayment into three to 24 budget-friendly monthly payments. Instead of paying standard finance charges each month, My Chase Plan charges a fixed monthly fee on eligible purchases.

What could be improved

The card_name isn’t designed for the everyday rewards-chaser or someone looking to consolidate debt with a 0% APR balance transfer offer. It’s truly geared toward Disney aficionados who want to enjoy some perks on their passion.

The Mouse rules: The card’s intro_apr_rate,intro_apr_duration offer only benefits Disney vacation planners. You can earn rewards in a number of different categories, but they can be redeemed only toward eligible flights or Disney-related expenses. And the discounts available on this card are limited to eligible Disney purchases.

If you’re a frequent Disney parkgoer, are planning a vacation for the family, or regularly make purchases online or in Disney retail stores, this card might be right for you. But otherwise, the benefits make it subpar for the everyday credit card user.

Bottom line

The card_name from Chase has one audience in mind: those who spend money at Disney. It’s a worthwhile card for anyone planning a Disney trip or who spends a lot of money in the Disney sphere, as it earns great bonus rewards on Disney purchases, and redemptions are mostly limited to Disney Rewards Dollars. If you’re not planning a Disney vacation in the future or don’t plan to spend any money through Disney online or in-store, look elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Is card_name hard to get?

While the card_name doesn’t have a published minimum credit score requirement, most Chase credit cards do require Good to Excellent credit to qualify. You’ll also be subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule, making you ineligible for a card if you’ve opened five new accounts from any issuer in the last 24 months.

What is the difference between Disney Visa and card_name?

While both cards are similar and offer the same six-month 0% APR offer on vacation packages, the Disney Visa has no annual fee and a smaller welcome bonus. Disney Visa cardholders also earn 1% back on all card purchases, while Disney Premier Visa cardholders can earn up to 5% in bonus categories.

Is card_name worth it?

The card_name from Chase is worth considering if you’re planning an upcoming Disney vacation or regularly spend money on Disney-related purchases. If you can meet the minimum spend requirement to earn the $300 welcome bonus (and cancel out the card’s annual fee), it’s an even better offer.

Can I upgrade my Disney Visa to the card_name?

You can contact Chase card services to request an upgrade from the Disney Visa to the card_name. You’ll be subject to an annual fee with this upgrade but can begin enjoying your new card benefits while still using your old credit card (until the replacement arrives).
