Food delivery apps like DoorDash are incredibly convenient, but the costs can add up. Once you’ve paid the service fees and tipped your delivery driver, you could be looking at a bill twice as large as if you had simply ordered your food directly from the restaurant and picked it up yourself.

The card_name cuts down on these fees in a few ways. Here’s a closer look at how you can save money with this card.

TIME’s Take

With a powerful earning rate for DoorDash spending and the ability to get DoorDash’s DashPass membership for free, the card_name delivers on its promise to make convenience more rewarding. That said, if you prefer using other food delivery platforms, there are better options on the market.

Pros & cons

Pros:

  • No annual fee
  • Excellent return rate for dining
  • Annual DoorDash membership after spending $10,000 each year

Cons:

  • Meager welcome bonus
  • Only worthwhile for DoorDash superfans

Who is the card for?

To point out the obvious, the card_name is targeted at loyal DoorDash customers. Unless you order from DoorDash regularly, you won’t get much from the following DoorDash benefits:

  • Welcome offer of a free DoorDash DashPass membership.
  • 4% cash back on DoorDash and Caviar orders.
  • Various DoorDash-specific discounts and freebies

The card has other benefits, but you can find those on any decent cash back credit card.

Unlike many Chase credit cards, the DoorDash Rewards Card doesn’t offer travel rewards—just cash back.

If you like to spend money on travel, consider a travel credit card instead. They often provide a high earning rate on spending at restaurants. Some, like the card_name and card_name, offer food delivery discounts and memberships.

Rewards

Welcome bonus

The card_name doesn’t offer the usual welcome bonus of cash or points with a minimum spending requirement. Instead, you’ll receive a free DashPass membership for one year immediately upon account opening—no need to meet a spending threshold to qualify.

bonus_miles_full This includes benefits such as waived delivery fees on food orders over $12 (and grocery store orders over $25), various discounts, reduced service fees, and more. If you routinely order via DoorDash, a membership provides meaningful savings.

Earning cash back

The DoorDash Rewards Card’s high earning rate makes it one of the best credit cards for food delivery:

  • 4% cash back on DoorDash and Caviar orders
  • 3% cash back on dining purchased directly with the restaurant
  • 2% cash back with grocery stores (both online and in-store)
  • 1% cash back on all other eligible purchases

The 4% return rate includes every type of DoorDash order: restaurants, grocery stores, retail items, and even pet stores that appear within the app.

Redeeming cash back

The DoorDash Rewards Card makes it easy to redeem your cash back earnings, with options for a bank account direct deposit or a statement credit.

You can also redeem your rewards for gift cards, but your best bet is to purchase gift cards and DoorDash orders separately, then use statement credits to offset the expense.

The fine print

The card_name is a no annual fee credit card, but there are other potential costs associated with having the card. These include:

  • Purchase and balance transfer APR: reg_apr,reg_apr_type.
  • Cash Advance APR: cash_advance_apr.
  • Balance transfer fee: balance_transfer_fees
  • Cash advance fee: cash_advance_fee
  • Late/returned payment fee: up to $40.

Notably, the card waives foreign transaction fees, uncommon among no annual fee credit cards.

Additional hidden perks

DashPass membership

The DoorDash Rewards Card includes an annual DashPass membership for the primary cardholder and an authorized user as long as you spend at least $10,000 on your card each year. It’s a $192 annual value (for two users), which is significant for a no annual fee card.

$5 monthly discount

Through April 30, 2024, DashPass members with a DoorDash Rewards Card will receive a $5 discount on one DoorDash order per month. You must use your card at checkout to get the discount.

Travel insurance

The DoorDash Rewards Card does offer some travel-related protections.

You’ll get secondary rental car insurance when you waive the rental agency’s in-house collision damage waiver (CDW) and use your DoorDash Rewards Card to reserve your car. This will cover damage not insured by your primary insurance provider.

You’ll also receive trip cancellation/interruption insurance of up to $1,500 of coverage per person on your reservation (max $6,000 per trip) when you use your card for prepaid, nonrefundable travel that is interrupted for a covered reason. This includes things like inclement weather and illness.

Purchase insurance

If you make a large purchase with your card, Purchase Protection covers damage or theft up to 120 days after the purchase date, up to $500 per claim (max $50,000 per account).

The card will also tack on an extra year to eligible U.S. manufacturer’s warranties lasting three years or less.

Various Mastercard World Elite benefits

The card_name includes Mastercard World Elite benefits that can complement the lifestyle of a food-delivery addict. For example, you’ll receive offers for food delivery, rideshare services, online shopping, and more. You’ll get a $5 Lyft credit each month you take at least five rides (and pay with your card). You’ll even receive a free concierge service that’s available any hour of the day.

What could be improved

The DoorDash Rewards Card accomplishes what it sets out to do: make food delivery rewarding. But at its core, it’s a cash back credit card. And there are a couple of areas in which competing cards outpace it.

For example, many no annual fee cash back cards offer a welcome bonus worth around $200. But the DoorDash Rewards Card provides just $96 in value with a free year of DoorDash DashPass.

Also, many cash back credit cards offer 0% intro APR for a year or more. This is extremely helpful for those with large upcoming expenses that take a while to pay off. The DoorDash Rewards Card doesn’t have an intro APR offer.
