As the director of the new Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, Renee Wegrzyn has the task of finding and funding major biomedical innovations. With a multibillion-dollar budget, she tests ideas that are too risky for the private sector; in August, the agency launched a program to find innovations to help cancer surgeons more precisely target tumor cells while leaving healthy cells undisturbed and improve the health outcomes of operations.
