Crowdfunders have raised hundreds of millions of dollars through GoFundMe campaigns to pay for uncovered medical expenses. To help, CEO Solomon removed the 5% platform fee from all U.S.-based personal campaigns late last year, allowing users to keep more of the money they raise. With the rate of uninsured Americans now beginning a small but steady increase, the crowdfunding platform is vital to America’s health. —Robin Marty
