Into last week’s chorus of heady news fromEurope and hopeful words from San Francisco came a thin, somber notefrom U.S. public opinion. It came from a cross-section of adultcivilians buttonholed by the University of Denver’s National OpinionResearch Center. The poll question: do you expect the U.S. to get inanother war within the next 25 years?
Replied 36 of every 100 asked: yes. Another 23% thought there would beanother war within 50 years. Only 20% felt in their bones that WorldWar II was the last.
