Dominique Ansel Bakery, the NYC hotspot famous for creating the elusive cronut, was shuttered Friday by the Department of Health due to a “severe mouse infestation.”
“The establishment was closed by the Department because of a severe mouse infestation that requires professional pest control services,” a spokesperson from the New York City Health Department told TIME in an email.
Gothamist posted a video of mouse scurrying across the bakery’s kitchen floor Thursday:
“For one small bakery,we have four dishwashers employed on a full-time basis and we do inspections every night before closing,” a bakery representative told NBC 4 New York Thursday. She continued that the “staff spent seven hours cleaning the store Thursday and found just the one mouse.” But according to the DOH, the mouse had allies.
I guess the mice didn’t want to wait in line for the new milk and cookie shots.
The bakery has not yet responded to requests for comment.
