While Hollywood was busy poking fun at — and subtly protesting — President Donald Trump at the 2017 Academy Awards, First Lady Melania Trump played hostess for her first official party at the White House.
The First Lady hosted the Governors Ball, an annual dinner for the leaders of each U.S. state, on Sunday night, USA Today reported. The dinner had a “Spring’s Renewal” theme, and Trump donned a black gown for the occasion. “We come together as one nation, leaving political labels and partisan interests behind,” she said in a statement about the dinner.
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said that she “put a lot of time” into planning the dinner.
During her husband’s first month in office, Trump has kept a low profile and has yet to officially relocate to the White House. Instead, she has chosen to remain in New York with her 10-year-old son while he finishes the school year and plans to move to D.C. in the summer.
