Seth Meyers addressed the hardcore Bernie Sanders supporters who threatened to derail the Democratic convention this week by protesting and booing Hillary Clinton surrogates in a new Late Night segment called “Hey!”
“Look I know you’re Bernie-or-Bust, but the results are in. Bust won,” Meyers said during the segment, which aired Tuesday night on NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers. “We don’t have time for this.”
Added Meyers: “We’re on the cusp of electing a racist demagogue, and that never ends well. I don’t know which class you ditched to go to those Bernie rallies, but I have a feeling it was history.”
The Late Night host, who previously banned Donald Trump from appearing on his show, reminded the supporters that 48% of the U.S. is made up of “crazy uncles you only see at Thanksgiving,” and that if Trump is elected, it’s “about to be Thanksgiving all day every day.” Meyers said he understood why the supporters are disappointed, saying their “passion changed the Democratic party,” but that “now is the time to be quiet.”
