Hostess Brands, the maker of Ding Dongs and other snack cakes, is recalling 710,000 cases of baked goods because the items may contain traces of peanuts.
Snacks that are being recalled include Ding Dongs, Zingers, Chocodiles and chocolate and powdered donuts. A complete list of the items, which do not include a warning about peanuts on their packaging, can be found on the FDA’s website.
People with peanut allergies run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume products with peanut allergens.
The potential peanut traces in Hostess products come from the brand’s flour supplier, Grain Craft, which issued its own recall due to peanut residue concerns. For the majority of peanut allergic consumers, “the amount of peanut exposure from use of flours and affected products is considered to be low and not expected to cause adverse health effects,” Hostess said in a statement.
Hostess has been notified of two allergic reactions related to the products that are now being recalled, the company said.
