Celebrity chef and Crocs connoisseur Mario Batali stopped by The Tonight Show Tuesday, where he challenged host Jimmy Fallon to a grilled cheese cook-off. Fred Armisen was there, too, just to hang out and supervise. Questlove served as judge, and conducted a blind taste test at the end.
Batali is extremely confident, which is understandable, because he is a famous professional chef and Jimmy Fallon is an injury-prone Neil Young impersonator. As you’ll see, though, Fallon totally holds his own.
Batali goes the fancy route. He touts black truffles as his secret ingredient, calls himself an “artisan” and teases Fallon for using average “diner” ingredients like white bread and American cheese. (Fallon does, however, mix maple syrup into his butter, which sounds absolutely delicious.)
It’s ultimately Questlove’s call. Watch above to see which sandwich he deems the winner.
