Portrait

American Youth is a collection of images taken by the photographers of Redux, a New York City–based photo agency that represents more than two dozen of the world's top photojournalists. The book includes photos by photographers like Erin Siegal, who provides a small portfolio of portraits of young gay people in San Francisco. One of her subjects, Sadie Lune, above, posed with pet snakes in multiple hats and a painted mustache (which she says she wears "not infrequently") to reflect multiple sides of herself. Says Sadie, "It turned out to be my favorite photoshoot that I've ever done, and I love the pictures — it reallyfeels like me!"Erin Siegal / Redux
