James Corden is one of Beyoncé’s biggest fans, and like many superfans, he used his free time to write a little fan fiction. Of course, Corden isn’t just an average fan though, so on Monday night’s episode of The Late Late Show, with the help of Adam Scott and Meg Ryan, he turned his fan fiction into quality television, transforming Beyoncé lyrics into the plot of a soap opera called The Bold and the Lyrical.
In the sketch, Ryan and Scott are in bed cooing sweet nothings like “Say my name, say my name” and “Tonight, I’ll be your naughty girl” to each other, only to have their romance (and lyric reciting) interrupted by Corden, playing Ryan’s husband. When he burst into the room, Corden is instantly suspicious, “You’re acting kind of shady, ain’t calling me baby.” Ryan told him, “Relax, you’re looking so crazy right now,” to which Corden could only reply, “Your love’s got me looking so crazy right now!”
As the action and the Beyoncé lyrics unfurl, things aren’t looking good for Ryan and Corden. Don’t worry, though, because Corden is a survivor: “You thought I’d be weak without you, but I’m stronger. Thought I’d be sad without you, but I laugh harder. I’m a survivor.”
