Two children and 24 chihuahuas were removed from a Florida home covered in trash, bugs, feces and urine, officials say.
The mother, 52-year-old Tamara Daniels, has been charged with child neglect without great bodily harm, USA Today reports. After a sheriff’s deputy noticed the condition of the home while responding to a separate call, the Department of Children and Families removed the kids and the dogs were taken to the SPCA of Brevard County, Fla., where they will be put up for adoption.
The children were reportedly not enrolled in school, and the bottoms of their feet were covered in dog feces. When investigators entered the home, Daniels reportedly said, “I know it’s bad. Please don’t take me to jail.”
