Louis C.K. surprised his fans with a new series that premiered on his website on Saturday.
The dark comedy, titled Horace and Pete, follows two Brooklynites who run a dreary bar. C.K. wrote and stars in the series, which he dropped via email Saturday morning. It costs viewers $5 to take in 67 minutes of what the New Yorker describes as “Cheers meets ‘The Iceman Cometh.'”
C.K. stars as “Horace” and plays alongside Steve Buscemi as “Pete” and Alan Alda as “Uncle Pete.” The show seems to be set in the immediate present—in the the first episode, there’s discussion of Donald Trump’s decision to bypass the last Republican debate before the Iowa caucus. That debate was last Thursday, Jan. 28.
