Taylor Swift Surprised Ryan Adams on a Radio Show to Talk About 1989

2 minute read

Singer-songwriter Ryan Adams finally released his full-album cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989 on Sunday night. And Monday, he stopped by Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show to discuss how the whole project started. Oh, and the interview also features an appearance from Swift herself. Skip to 7:40 to hear her join the conversation:

“What struck me immediately when I listened to it is how they’re not cover songs,” Swift said. “They’re reimaginings of my songs, and you can tell that he was in a very different place emotionally when he put his spin on them than I was when I wrote them. There’s this beautiful aching sadness and longing in this album that doesn’t exist in the original.”

Swift also said that she’s been listening to Adams’ album so much that she’s beginning to sing her own songs with his melodies. It’s becoming a bit of a problem during her current world tour.

When asked to name her favorite covers, she said it was a tie between “Blank Space” and “How You Get The Girl.”
