Paul McCartney was hospitalized in Tokyo this week after canceling a string of shows in Asia due to an illness.
The former Beatle contracted a virus while on tour, which initially led to the cancellation of shows on May 17, 18 and 19. When his condition didn’t improve, he cancelled the remainder of his Asia performances — including a concert in Seoul scheduled for May 28 — and went to a hospital in Tokyo for treatment.
“Since contracting a virus last week that led to the postponement of tour dates, Paul received successful medical treatment at a hospital in Tokyo,” a statement posted on his website Thursday night read. “He will make a complete recovery and has been ordered to take a few days rest. Paul has been extremely moved by all the messages and well wishes he has received from fans all over the world.”
The 71-year-old singer/songwriter has said he will reschedule the Asia dates. An 18-show U.S. leg of his tour is still set to kick off on June 14.
