Bodie is a well-known podcaster and film professor who returns to the tony boarding school she attended as a troubled teenager to teach a course. There, she’s thrown back into memories from her senior year, when the murder of her classmate rocked campus. The school’s young Black athletic coach went to prison for the crime, but now that Bodie is back, she’s starting to wonder if they got the wrong guy. As Bodie reconciles her past and current biases with current attitudes toward social justice and retribution, she makes startling revelations that cause her to question everything she thought she knew about the murder—and to interrogate her own obsession with it. —Cady Lang
