Veloso’s team of AI researchers at JPMorgan Chase & Co. “dominates the AI research landscape within the banking sector,” producing 45% of all AI research output from banks last year, according to Evident, a startup that analyzes finance companies’ A.I. capabilities.
Veloso, a renowned AI and robotics researcher and professor emerita at Carnegie Mellon University, tells us that her biggest curiosity about the future of work is how to seamlessly integrate the capabilities of humans and AI. “When we think about…all the information that’s available on the web, all the things we have to evaluate, to optimize, we have to humbly decide we cannot do it without AI,” she said at last year’s 2023 Evident AI Symposium. “But on the other hand, we cannot give up on what we know…We cannot go ‘Machine learning does it all’ or ‘We know it all.’ It’s the magic of putting the two things together.”
