Canada at War: BRITISH COLUMBIA,THE SERVICES: Amends to an Ally

Canada fell in line last week with the nations prepared to recognize China and the Chinese as equals. Prime Minister King informed Parliament that the act excluding Chinese immigrants (exceptions: diplomats, students, travelers, a few merchants) will soon be replaced by a “mutual and reciprocal” immigration treaty between Canada and China.*

Some 35,000 Chinese now live in Canada. The Dominion never excluded Japanese, now has some 12,500 in resettlement and internment camps, another 11,000 at large. The Prime Minister, making his amends to China last week, had color-touchy British Columbians in mind when he expressed a hope that there would be no opposition “in any part of Canada.”
