In Palestine, Red reflexes jerked obediently and opportunely in response to Russia’s U.N. vote in favor of partition. In Jewish Tel Aviv the minuscule Communist Party of Palestine, long scornful of any kind of purely Jewish nationalism, changed its name to Communist Party of Eretz Israel (Land of Israel).
Arab Communists in nearby Lebanon were apparently under no such need for semantic flips. Beirut Communist pamphleteers announced that they were ”ready to fight for the liberation of Palestine from Zionist imperialism.”
