Medicine: At 75

He owns and wears Britain’s finest collection of fancy waistcoats, all with buttons engraved with his initials.

He has worn a mauve carnation in his buttonhole every day for 38 years.

He has been conspicuous among horsemen at 57 Derbies.

He is punctilious about the dress and deportment of gentlemen and ladies on horseback, scolding the slovenly as desecrators of manners.

He first married in 1884, and soon fathered two sons.

Last year he married a second time.

And last week his third son was born.

Of that extraordinary event said 75-year-old Sir Henry Walter Gilbey: “I don’t think it of much public interest.”
