Medicine: Mare Serum Hormone

Ten percent of all women are sterile. In Dallas last week, as part of the program of the Central Association of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, Dr. Morris Edward Davis of Chicago announced that he can make certain women, who are sterile because their ovaries produce no ova, capable of having babies by injecting them with serum taken from the blood of a pregnant mare. Dr. Davis’ mare serum hormone in unascertained fashion reuses the ovaries to their natural functions. Said he last week: “We have positive proof that a single injection of this hormone is enough to provide full development and ovulation. This opens a tremendous field. We can overcome sterility in many cases and do a tremendous amount of good.”

Taking a deep breath this able scientist added a final cracker: “It is also within the realm of possibility, although it might not be wise, that we could produce ovulation that would result in more than one child if the patient wanted twins.”
