¶ Robert Bernerd Anderson, 45, who resigned recently as U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense (TIME, July 25), became president of Ventures Ltd., giant Canadian holding company with interests (mostly mining) scattered over five continents. He succeeds Thayer Lindsley, Ventures’ founder, who becomes board chairman. Texas-born Lawyer Anderson will help push the company in a new direction. Engineer Johnson, a one-company man, joined Ingersoll-Rand in 1924 after leaving M.I.T. He became manager of the Houston branch in 1930, moved steadily through local offices. In 1939 he became assistant vice president and in 1955 first vice president.
