Republican leaders who want Eisenhower for President are arguing over when to get an Eisenhower campaign organization rolling. One group, which includes Tom Dewey, wants to get started right away. But former Senator Harry Darby of Kansas, top man in the Ike forces, has been holding out for next spring. While thus biding their time, the Ike supporters have been watching other Republicans with somewhat anxious eyes. Ohio’s Senator Robert Taft has been stumping across the land, making some gains. Supporters of Harold E. Stassen, who had been counted as an Ike man, announced that they will open Stassen headquarters in St. Louis. Last week, having seen enough, the Eisenhower men made plans to open their campaign in earnest within a month.
