In the streets of Seoul 20,000 South Koreans gave a new and heartfelt twist to an old Communist slogan. As they watched veterans of the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division embark for home, they shouted the rising chant: “Yankee, don’t go home!” For the G.I.s, the occasion was a happy one, but disturbed South Koreans hung out banners proclaiming that “withdrawal of U.S. forces invites destruction.”
