FOREIGN TRADE: Parts & Flowers

Foreign traders were cheered by two bits of news last week : 1 ) they can resume private trade with France; 2) the first shipment of tulip bulbs (8,000 cases) from Holland since war began was on the high seas en route to the U.S.

Trade with France will not amount to much at first. It is restricted to products which will help France rebuild its economy: e.g., machine tools, spare parts, raw materials, etc. Furthermore, traders are limited to shipments weighing not more than five tons, nor worth more than $20,000. Larger shipments will continue to be handled by the French Government’s pur chasing missions.
