The Army newspaper Stars & Stripes asked a pointed question. It wanted to know how 54 members of the Hawaiian A.A.F. football team (only 13 of whom had enough points for discharge) got air priority home last month, when highpoint combat veterans couldn’t. To help Stars & Stripes find out, Oklahoma’s Congressman A. S. (“Mike”) Monroney demanded, and got, an investigation. The Army promptly told its Hawaii commander to explain.
