Hamilton College students picketed their chapel, implored their president: “Hal—Don’t leave us for Minnesota.” A petition, signed by every one of Hamilton’s 432 undergraduates, urged him to stay. So did Hamilton’s faculty, its trustees. S. university to stay where he was. Said he: “I have a moral responsibility to finish what I have started at Hamilton. The trustees are with me, the students are with me—I am having a wonderful time.”
