To take the itch out of mosquito bites, Dr. William Albert Hoffman of Puerto Rico’s School of Tropical Medicine recommends dabbing the bites with a piece of cotton moistened with a few drops of chloroform. It is supposed to work best if done while the bites are new. Precaution: keep chloroform away from eyes and mouth—it burns.
