To Postmaster General James Aloysius Farley, Director John M. Stahl (Letter of Introduction, Back Street, Magnificent Obsession) last week addressed a request for a series of U. S. postage stamps exhibiting the likenesses of cinemactors. Said Director Stahl:
“I am convinced that the plan presents exceptional economic and artistic possibilities. Certainly the post office business would increase with stamps bearing replicas of Shirley Temple, Norma Shearer, Irene Dunne. Deanna Durbin. Clark Gable, Charlie Chaplin and even Charlie McCarthy and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”
