Shouldering its way to the head of the line, the War Department last week commandeered the nation’s entire August and September turkey crop to ship overseas to servicemen. As a second thought, it assured U.S. citizens that there would be plenty of Thanksgiving and Christmas turkey for all. Hundreds of thousands more turkeys are gobbling and getting fat this year than last, and 90% will go to civilians, said the Army.
