TIME
The wartime liquor drought was eased last week. Five provinces doubled the ration from 26 oz. (slightly less than a quart) to 52 oz. a month; two quadrupled it from 13 to 52 oz. (Quebec’s generous 80-oz. ration remained the same, and Prince Edward Island stayed dry.)
On second look, parched Canadians could see that the news was not intoxicatingly good. Beer and wine would still be as short as ever; Scotch and other imported liquors would be practically nonexistent ; rye would be scarce for the time being. The increase would have to be taken largely in gin, and that would be the same old watered wartime stuff.
