The French Blockade Ministry noted with pride last week that the Allies were within a few tons of one million in their total seizures of merchandise bound to Germany—544,000 tons for Britain, 439,000 tons for France. Simultaneously, the British Contraband Control announced a concession to Germany. It let pass to adjacent neutrals, for reshipment into Germany if desired, a large quantity of rat poison and one-half ton of overripe Gruyere cheese.
