Rev. Endicott (“Peabo”) Peabody, 81, founder and rector of Groton, snootiest preparatory school in the U. S., can nick many a big name (Roosevelt, Morgan, Whitney) with a headmaster’s holy right. A notoriously hardy perennial, as he left 70 further behind “Peabo” was fond of saying that his successor had not yet been weaned. But last week, his health robust as ever, he announced his inevitable retirement—in June 1940.
