Press: Jew Shoot

James True is an aging white-thatched journalist who has been puttering around Washington for two decades. For years he has furnished “confidential letters” and “inside information” to those whose ignorance about Washington was matched only by their curiosity concerning Capital affairs. From his office in the National Press Building, James True has of late been operating two obscure enterprises known as James True Associates and America First, Inc., whose main activity is the distribution of inflammatory anti-Semitic literature. Last week this little-known pamphleteer popped into the news when he inadvertently furnished a Leftist weekly with one of its most astounding stories.

To a reporter for Manhattan’s radical New Masses, whom he mistook for a Republican, James True announced that a general massacre of U. S. Jews had been scheduled for September. “We’re not going to drive the Jews out of this country!” growled Mr. True. ”We’re going to bury ’em right here!”

Last year Jew Baiter True patented under “Amusement Devices and Games,” a policeman’s club (Patent No. 2,026,077). Referred to by its inventor as a “Kike Killer,” No. 2,026,077 is a short, stream lined hardwood truncheon, with finger grip and leather lanyard. Two “Kike Killers” were handy on the True desk during the interview, the New Masses reported. Mrs. True, the New Masses interviewer was told, carried a less hefty bludgeon called a “Kike Killer, lady’s size.” Pointing out that “for a first-class massacre more than a truncheon is needed,” the New Masses went on to report that “alongside the patented invention on True’s desk lies a Colt revolver. True is a good shot. He practices by shooting at a cake of soap, because [he says] the consistency of soap approximates Jewish flesh.” For allwho care to join his September Jew shoot, True “promises he canobtain revolvers” from a Washington hardware firm at wholesale prices.

The New Masses reporter, who published his story under the pseudonym of “Porter Niles,” wrote that he gained ready admittance to Mr. True’s office by saying he came from Republican Party headquarters. Besides the imminence of the September pogrom, he learned from True that “Jews pay Negroes to rape white girls; Jews caused the World War and the Depression; Franklin Roosevelt is really named Rosenfeld and Jew Rosenfeld is insane; the Jews have been “plotting the destruction of Christian civilization for 500 years.”

Choosing to rate James True not an industrious, leather-conscienced hack but a clown, as dangerous as Nazi Germany’s Jew-baiting Julius Streicher, the New Masses telegraphed its findings to President Roosevelt.
