To the editor of the Muskegon (Mich.) Chronicle marched a townsman named William E. Worthing. Said he: “I have an item for your society page. We’re going to have a baby next fall.”
Replied the editor: “We don’t print that kind of news.”
Mr. Worthing was indignant. “How about the Tunneys? How about the Lindberghs? How about the Empress of Japan?” The editor was unmoved. To the advertising department marched Mr. Worthing. Next day the Chronicle carried the following paid item:
“NOTICE—Mr. & Mrs. William E. Worthing . . . wish to announce that they are expecting their first baby in November.”
