Although many a commodity has rallied from its low, last week the principal foodstuffs were still, in Manhattan at least, “dirt cheap.” At last week’s prices, corn, wheat and rye were respectively .018¢, .016¢ and .01¢ a pound. In Manhattan good topsoil sells at $3 for a 200-lb. barrel, or .015¢ per lb.
