After 37 years and one month of service in the Senate, longest in U. S. history, Death came last week to Francis Emroy Warren of Wyoming. Past 85, he resisted but briefly the incursion of bronchial pneu-monia. His son-in-law, General John Joseph Pershing, was at his bedside. He was the Senate’s oldest member, its last Civil War veteran. Massachusetts-born, he went west after the Civil War, helped found the city of Cheyenne (1873). He was Wyoming’s first Governor (1890). As chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee for twelve years, he helped supervise the expenditure of some 40 billions of public funds.
