Final figures of the appropriations made by Congress in the short session closed last fortnight, reach the sum of $4,633,000,000. Never since the Budget Bureau was set up were its recommendations so far exceeded by appropriations—an excess of some six and a half million dollars. In the previous session of the 70th Congress $4,628,000,000 was appropriated. Total appropriations by the last three Congresses are as follows: 68th Congress (1923-25)—$7,935,000,000 69th Congress (1925-27)—$8,620,000,000 70th Congress (1927-29)— $9,291,000,000.
