Scientists at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory last week reported strong evidence that the Earth’s inner core–a sphere about the size of the Moon–is spinning freely within the molten outer core.
–The inner core seems to be rotating slightly faster than the surface of the planet
–If its motion remains constant, the core will make one extra turn every 400 years
