THE PRIVATE LIFE OF Louis XV—Mouffle d’Angerville (Translated by H.S.Mengard)—Boni & Liveright ($3.50). Spicy is the adjective which must govern this book. It shows how the people of Paris, tired of the wicked Regency, welcomed the young King with open arms, and how they came to detest him. In the main, it is the story of Louis’ amours, piquant, authoritative and amusing. The translation itself has considerable merit.
