Education: Use for the Classics

A few months ago a politician who has fought hard during all his political life retired from the Senate. He was crowned with years and with the praise of enemies and friends of both parties.

Word now comes that in the quiet of his Mississippi home he is rereading Horace, Homer, and Sophocles, love for which were developed 50 years ago at the University of the South (Sewanee, Tenn.), at the Uni-versity of Virginia and at the Uni-versity of Heidelberg.

And educators query: ” Will the tradition of John Sharp William” lend strength to the much harassed cause of Latin and Greek?”
