Automobile tires up 21%. Refrigerators, ranges and freezers 3%. Office copying machines 3½%. Wholesale ground coffee 4%. Newsprint 4%. Heating and air-conditioning units 5%. Flexible cartons 5% to 9%. Jet airplane engines 5% to 10%. Gas turbines 71%. Rubbish-bag grades of polyethylene film 9%. In New York, a state court approved a 43% rise in Blue Cross insurance rates. American Telephone & Telegraph asked federal approval of a $69 million rate increase on its office private lines and teletype services.
