> Texas: a 21-17 upset of previously unbeaten, No. 1-ranked Alabama, in the Orange Bowl at Miami. Striking for two lightning scores (one on a 79-yd. run by Tailback Ernie Koy, the other on a 69-yd. pass from Jim Hudson to George Sauer), the fifth-ranked Longhorns opened up a 21-7 halftime lead. Then they hung on for dear life, intercepting two passes, stopping one Alabama drive at the 1-ft. line, as ‘Bama’s great Quarterback Joe Namath, playing with an injured knee, frantically filled the air with footballs, completing 18 out of 37 for 255 yds.
>Arkansas: a come-from-behind, 10-7 victory over stubborn Nebraska, in the Cotton Bowl at Dallas. Held to only 45 yds. rushing by a Nebraska line that outweighed them by 20 Ibs. per man, the No. 2-ranked Razorbacks took to the air, went 80 yds. in the dying minutes for the TD that gave them their first undefeated, untied season in 55 years.
> Louisiana State: a 13-10 squeaker over Syracuse, in the Sugar Bowl at New Orleans, on a 28-yd. field goal by Doug Moreau—his 14th in eleven games, and the fifth time this season that his talented toe has provided L.S.U. with its margin of victory.
> Michigan: a 34-7 rout of Oregon State, in the Rose Bowl at Pasadena. Spotting the upset-minded Beavers a 7-0 lead, the Big Ten Champion Wolverines roared back on the running of 201-Ib. Fullback Mel Anthony, who scored three times, once on an 84-yd. dash —longest in the Rose Bowl’s 51-year history.
