TIME
When Dr. Edward U. Condon was director of the National Bureau of Standards, a subcommittee of the House Un-American Activities Committee called him “one of the weakest links in our atomic security” (TIME, March 15, 1948), but never called him to the stand to reply to the charge. Rated one of the ablest men in the Government, Dr. Condon was stoutly defended by many of the country’s top scientists.
Last week members of the American Association for the Advancement of Science reaffirmed their faith. They chose Physicist Condon, now research chief of the Corning Glass Co., their new president-elect.
