In Chicago last week, the CBS color TV system inched forward against determined RCA resistance. A federal court dismissed the RCA suit protesting the Federal Communications Commission decision in favor of CBS. But, since RCA may still appeal, the federal judges ruled that the injunction against the starting of CBS commercial network colorcasts must be kept in force until April 1, “or until terminated by the Supreme Court.”
CBS President Frank Stanton saw ultimate victory “in a few months,” and announced the showing this week of a new CBS colorset featuring a 17-inch screen. Employing a revolving color drum, the new set frees the CBS system from the limitation of 12½-inch screens caused by the bulky color wheel (TIME, Oct. 23).
