TIME
Britain had election fever. All week, there was mounting speculation about when & if Prime Minister Clement Attlee would announce the date of Britain’s impending general election. On Sunday, Attlee motored from his country residence at Chequers to confer with King George at Sandringham Castle. To clear the way for the election, the King would have to dissolve the present Parliament, issue writs calling a new one into session. Barring a last-minute switch, the British general election will be held Thursday, Feb. 23.
